Dear Students,
Procedures regarding requests for excused absences from midterm exams are carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 6, Paragraph 1—titled "Justifiable and Valid Reasons"—of the Gazi University Directive on Justifiable and Valid Reasons.
Within the scope of this regulation, the evaluation of health-related excuses is based on the following criteria:
Situations such as undergoing medically urgent surgery, childbirth, inpatient hospital treatment and/or monitoring, or experiencing a health issue requiring intervention in a hospital emergency department are taken as the basis.
Medical reports falling outside this scope are not accepted as valid excuses for midterm exams. Accordingly, reports obtained from family health centers, outpatient clinics, or other healthcare facilities that do not meet the conditions specified in Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Directive will not be considered valid excuses.
Furthermore, it is important to note that not every report obtained from a hospital emergency department automatically constitutes a valid excuse for a midterm exam. For a report from an emergency department to be accepted as a valid excuse, the student's health issue must be of a nature that requires intervention within the emergency department.
Therefore, students planning to apply for an excused absence based on a medical report due to an inability to attend midterm exams are strongly advised to carefully review the conditions specified in Article 6, Paragraph 1 of the Gazi University Directive on Justifiable and Valid Reasons before obtaining such a report. All students are strongly advised to exercise due care regarding the fact that medical reports failing to meet the conditions specified in the directive will not be accepted as valid excuses for midterm examinations.
